Nanny Dramaries

The good news is that we have a new nanny (NN) and she is great. As for the old nanny (ON), well, let's just say that the honey moon was over with her in a few months. ON was great with the kids. They loved her and she loved them. But as it turns out, she was a scatterbrained slob and there were a lot of small things that bothered us about her. But it was like a bad marriage...we stayed in it because of the kids.

We did speak to ON about our concerns throughout the months, but the fact of the matter is that she was a prima donna. I think that she felt that being a nanny was beneath her. Anyway, she is getting married this weekend, and I think that her twisted ankle story was blown up larger than it really was so that she could have time off before and after the wedding.

Ro was out of town when ON called to say that she didn't think she would be able to be back for a long while and so we discussed that I would find another nanny. It was the weekend and the agency wouldn't be open till Monday so I was desperate and went on some online nanny sites. I got a few bites. Then on a late Saturday night, I thought I would try to put an ad on Craig's list. I got a lot of good responses, one of which is NN.

We did a background check and checked references and we really liked her when we met her. She is very warm and sweet and she is from Guatemala! Of course that was a plus. She started on Monday and I am working from home this week (as well as last week) while Lily and Noah get to know her. Lily and Noah have warmed up to her really well. NN cooks all meals from scratch. On Monday she gave me a list of what to buy at the store for her to be able to prepare their meals. And then yesterday she gave me a list of things to buy at the craft store so that she can do arts and crafts with the kids. Yesterday she sat them in their chairs to color and then rounded up different papers for them to tear and explore. Today they played with all of the new stuff I bought.

Of course it is week one with NN, but so far, so good. She likes to keep the kids busy and is strict about limited TV. She had me dig out all the music CD's I have because she likes them to listen to music. It is great. She really seems to love what she does. I am very hopeful that she will work out.

Sunday Breakfast

We went to my parent's house today for my mom's birthday. The kids had a great time running around. My mom makes a mean breakfast...chorizo, flour tortillas, eggs, potatoes, bacon. Serious artery clogger, but these days, she only does it a couple times per year. Poor mom, it was her birthday and we made her cook!

Lounging

I finally got to wash my hand on Friday and am currently typing with two hands...even if it is with just one finger on my right hand. I had my stitches removed Thursdayand it hurt like a son of a bitch! It was the worst pain I have had for the entire surgery. And the PA was snotty about it not hurting that bad and I got pissed and told her with a mean look, "YES, IT IS!". When I get my left done, I will take 2 vicodin 1 hour before I get my stitches removed.

Which brings me to my left hand...it is getting worse. I asked the PA if it is because I have been using it solely for 2 weeks and she said that it would only affect it a bit in that amount of time but that our brains usually focus on one bothersome thing at a time and that my left was probably always this bad, it is just that my right was worse. And I can see that because my left would bother on occasion pretty bad.

She asked me if I wanted to schedule surgery for the left. I think I will eventually, but I will wait to see if it improves. The left will be easier.

But it is amazing. All of the carpal tunnel numbness and pain....GONE! GONE! I am so excited about that. I am still very sore and occasionally get sharp stabbing pains. I have been using my hand more, but some things still hurt a lot...like pulling. As in pulling my pants together to button them. Or fastening a regular bra. And opening jars, even if I use my left to open the lid, I still cannot hold the jar in place so I put them in the crook of my elbow. But I can lift the babies and carry them down the stairs. Looking forward to being able to wipe my ass with my right...I can now that I can wash it, but couldn't muster the power needed, so will still be coming from the left for a while.

The kids are great. All 4 of us had colds last week but they were mild. Tylenol Cold/Flu really works wonders (for Ro and I).

Here's a picture of the kids lounging...they each have a bean bag and they love them. They were Lily and Noah's birthday gifts from us and we are finally using them. We think they were one of our best investments because they are comfy for us and the kids love to free-fall into them.
